Wenger Wants Youngster Arsenal Learn From Chelsea’s Counter Defeat
Arsene Wenger expects his young players to learn from mistakes after suffering a 3-0 defeat in a friendly against Chelsea.
As Chelsea manager Antonio Conte opted to play his strongest team for the friendly, Wenger instead played a mixed team of senior players and young players, including Cohen Bramall and Ainsley Maitland-Niles.
The move proved to be a total wrong decision because Chelsea were able to win easily with a score of 3-0, following two goals from Michy Batshuayi and another from Willian.
But Wenger is not disheartened by the result, and insists that the experience of playing against the Premier League defending teams will teach his squad more members about top-level matches.
“I play some players with less experience in an unusual position to see how they handle it. Chelsea played with regular teams from the start and I had a mixture of teams in the first and second half. We paid the price for it, but even so, it’s not all negative, “he said.
“We also had a very good moment in the game, but we could not score. Overall, I think there are many positive things in the game. We do not have much experience in a decisive position, “he continued.
“They (young players) know that any possession of the ball at the top level is important. You can not play with as much effort as 95 percent in a match like this, “the manager said.
“You must be 100 percent committed and they pay for every mistake. The speed of the game is much higher than before, they will come home with a lot of things to think about and hopefully they will learn quickly, “added Wenger.
“In addition, I must say there are many positive things from some young players. They have shown their personality, quality and ability to get a chance to play again in such top level matches, “added the French manager. (Source: Standard)
